Plasticon Composites is known as the specialist in wet filament winding process of GRE composites (Glass reinforced epoxy). We deliver worldwide your custom composite tubes.

Since 1983 Plasticon Composites has manufactured a wide diversity of high performance composite tubings :

  • Glass epoxy tube – very good ratio cost / properties and nice finish
  • Carbon epoxy tube –used for lightness or covering finish
  • Flax epoxy tube – crash, damping and lightness

Any of our 10 workers has more than 20 years of experience in wet filament winding, machinning and structural bonding of composites tubes.

Our low cost manufacturing process will let you afford your custom composite parts, from single unit to medium series. Our sales and technical team remain at your service. We will advise the right combination of fiber, resin and winding pattern to design upon your specification.

Advantages of Plasticon composite GRE tubes:

  • Good ratio strength /stiffness
  • Dimensional precision of the inner diameter (H11) – no shrinkage during molding
  • Very low rugosity of the inner surface (Ra : 0,09µm), suitable for o-ring tight closing
  • Excellent outer surface finish as wound

Process:  a bunch of continuous glass fiber rovings are impregnated with viscous epoxy resin before being wound on a mandrel.

The fiber placement (winding angle) and the thickness are numerically monitored by the  winding machine. Mechanical properties of the composite tube intrinsically depend on this pattern.

High performance

Plasticon Composites realises high-performance composite parts from fiberglas, carbon fibre or natural fibre reinforced epoxy resin. Products such as medium-voltage fuses (housings), connecting parts for telecommunication networks, membrane housings for reverse osmosis, high pressure vessels, carbon struts, coupling shafts , fire-fighting columns for offshore platforms and pneumatic cylinders (housings). These technical parts, from 21 mm to 350 mm diameter and a length of 3 to 8.5 m (or on demand) are produced by filament winding from glass fibre, carbon fibre or flax fibres reinforced epoxy resin.

Advantages of carbon combined with epoxy:

  • high rigidity (more than twice the rigidity of an equivalent aluminium)
  • strong ageing and fatigue performance
  • dimensional stability (thermal expansion coefficient close to zero)
  • no shrinkage during moulding – high dimensional precision (tolerance H11 on internal Ø)
  • high chemical resistance
  • high temperature resistance (Tg above 125°C)
  • low density (1,6)

Advantages of glass combined with epoxy:

  • good ratio strength / stiffness
  • high chemical resistance (more than twice the resistance of an equivalent aluminium)
  • strong ageing and fatigue performance
  • low thermal expansion coefficient
  • no shrinkage during moulding – high dimensional precision (tolerance H11 on internal Ø)
  • high electrical insulation (up to 800 kV)
  • high chemical resistance - no pollution of fluid or samples
  • high temperature resistance (Tg above 125°C)
