After the Second World War, the Dutch company started as an installation company for PVC piping systems. Chemical plants acknowledged PVC as a chemical-resistant material for mediums such as chlorides, acids or caustic sodas. However, PVC had the disadvantage of being mechanically weak at low or high temperatures. The solution was to cover the PVC with a glass fibre reinforced polyester resin. This covering layer was not only chemical-resistant, but the material even appeared to be strong enough for the manufacture of storage tanks and equipment with diameters of 10 metres. From then on, Plasticon Composites built a reputation as an expert in the design and manufacturing of storage tanks, piping systems and process equipment for chemical processing markets.
Following various takeovers in recent decades, the company now operates under the flag of Plasticon Composites and has become a global group of companies. A group of companies that designs, manufactures and installs all forms of GRP pipe systems, vessels and other related equipment requiring high levels of corrosion and chemical resistance.
Plasticon Composites made plans to open a second production location in Hengelo, near Oldenzaal in the Netherlands. In 1977, ‘KTD Plasticon Dinslaken’ was acquired; this was a German company specialising in the construction of PP, PE and GRP equipment fitted with fluoropolymer liners. The focus at this time was to become the European market leader, so Plasticon Composites acquired Plasticon UK, Plasticon France, Plasticon Aubert and Plasticon Poland.
Having achieved European market leadership, the group was keen to tap the potential of overseas markets. It looked to the Asian market, first launching operations in Thailand, Malaysia and China, while the international sales group expanded sales activities in the rest of Asia and Pacific regions.
Soon afterwards, Plasticon Composites started operating activities in North America by opening a new sales office. The group acquired Plasticon Canada, with its headquarters in Quebec, Canada, together with its sister company in Jiaxing in China and Baton Rouge, USA.
Plasticon Composites also entered the Russian market by opening an office in St. Petersburg and Niznhy Novgorod. A sales office in South Africa was established in 2014 and different cooperations in Scandinavia, Middle-East, India and Latin America were set up the past years.
The history of the group results into an interesting composition of people, skills and competences.
